The function-expanded STB (iVDR Station) provides an innovative way of using next-generation TV terminals with cartridges compliant with the iVDR i/O standard.
Tuners, recorders and other such functions that are built into conventional TV sets will be made available as independent applications. The TV set will function solely as a display.
iVDR Station will come with basic functions such as an iVDR player. Other functions can be added depending on user needs via iVDR-i/O cartridges inserted into dedicated slots. The user will be able to create an optimum AV environment with different iVDR-i/O cartridges, each of which has a particular function or service.
When more slots are required, more stations can simply be added to increase the number of functions.
