On March 5, 2002 industry leaders Canon Inc., Fujitsu
Limited, Hitachi, Ltd., Phoenix Technologies K.K.,
Pioneer Corporation, SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., Sharp
Corporation, and Victor Company of Japan, Limited
(listed in alphabetical order) established the "iVDR
Hard Disk Drive Consortium" (iVDR Consortium).
*iVDR: Information Versatile Disk for Removable usage
Outline
Mission:
Based on the concept of a removable hard disk drive
the iVDR consortium will develop the iVDR platform
in order to make it an industry standard as a next
generation large data platform compatible with a
broad range of devices from AV to PC's. Furthermore
will work to spread its use in related industries
based on its strength as a device that crosses all
barriers for use between different devices.

How to obtain specifications
iVDR Specifications may be obtained by any of the following three methods.
- Obtaining of publicly disclosed specifications (specification outline). May be obtained free of charge as explained below.
- Obtaining of regular specifications with charges. Explained below.

How to obtain regular specifications(with charges)
A new system has been established for non-members to obtain regular specifications for the purpose of contemplating to join the Consortium. The following explains the conditions and procedures for obtaining regular specifications.
Conditions:
A Non-disclosure Agreement to be concluded with the Consortium.
Amount: 800,000 yen per annum (Please transfer the amount to a designated account within 30 days after concluding of the NDA.)
Limited to corporate membership.
* Under this system, only obtaining of specification documents is possible. Joining the Consortium will be required to produce or sell products under iVDR specifications.
* The effective period shall be for one year after concluding of the NDA.
* If a party joins the consortium within the fiscal year (by December of each fiscal year) after concluding of the NDA, the annual fees for that year shall be exempted.
(Example)
In case the NDA is concluded and transferring the amount in July, 2005 and a party joins the Consortium in October, 2005 payment of annual fees for the 2005 fiscal year shall be exempted.
In case the NDA is concluded and transferring the amount in July, 2005 and a party joins the Consortium in January, 2006 payment of annual fees for the 2006 fiscal year will be required.
Specifications which may be obtained:
Specifications which have been issued at the time of concluding the Agreement.
Specifications which are newly adopted and issued during the effective period.

Immediately upon receiving of the application form, the Secretariat will send two copies of the NDA, signed by the representative of the Consortium, and a bill for charges. Upon receiving the document, the applicant shall enter the necessary items and mail one copy to the Secretatiat with two calling cards of the person in charge enclosed. The applicant shall retain one copy.

The applicant shall pay the specification charges by transferring the amount to a designated account.

Upon confirming the NDA and payment by transfer into the account, all specifications will be e-mailed from the Secretariat.

Q. What are the privileges of iVDR Consortium.
A. They are as follows.
1.The iVDR Specifications can be downloaded.
2.There are rights to take part in WG(Working) activities.
3.There are rights to use the iVDR LOGO, to manufacture and sell iVDR Products.
Q.What are the differences between Executive members and General members?
A. They are as follows.
1.Only Executive members have rights to vote.(ex. adopt specifications)
2.Membership fee: Executive member 500,000 yen
General member 300,000 yen
3.Executive members have rights to candidate the Board of Directors.(Non-permanent, Term: 3 years)

Term: From January to December
Renewal unit: 1 Year
*Even if you register iVDR Consortium the middle of a year, the membership fee is the same.
The invoice of renewal membership is sent in December every year.
